Introduction to Gene S for Doctors

Gene S is a Western Australian biotechnology company with novel gene testing technology. Our NGS solution, featuring advanced gene testing and reporting software, empowers laboratories to deliver faster and more accurate PGx results to doctors, optimising patient care.

About the Rosa Platform

Gene S has developed an innovative PGx platform technology called Rosa, named in honour of Rosalind Franklin, a British scientist who made crucial contributions to understanding the physical structure of DNA, known as the double helix. Rosa has been developed for medications firstly to treat mental health conditions in both adults and children (RosaMind). The Rosa PGx platform will then be applied to medications used in the management of pain, cardiac conditions, and anaesthesia with future application for anti-bugs, cancer, and animal health.

Benefits of Gene S PGx Testing for Doctors

Helping Doctors to Prescribe Better

The genetic results using the Gene S RosaMind test provide PGx clinical guidelines for medications used to treat mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, psychosis and ADHD. These medications include: Amitriptyline, Doxepin, Paroxetine, Aripiprazole, Escitalopram, Quetiapine, Atomoxetine, Fluvoxamine, Risperidone, Carbamazepine, Haloperidol, Sertraline Citalopram, Imipramine, Trimipramine, Clomipramine, Lamotrigine, Venlafaxine, Desipramine, Nortriptyline, Zuclopenthixol.

How Gene S Works

01

Request

Clinician requests a blood/saliva/cheek swab to be collected from the patient.

02

Process

Local genetic pathology laboratory processes the sample using the Gene S PGx genetic test and analytics & reporting software solution.

03

Report

Requesting healthcare professional receives the Gene S PGx report.

Frequently Asked Questions for Clinicians

RosaMind is a pharmacogenomic platform that analyses patient DNA to determine how they metabolise medications commonly prescribed for mental health conditions. It provides clinical guidelines, based on recommendations from the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC®), on which medications and dosages are most suitable, helping to improve patient outcomes and reduce trial-and-error.

Gene S testing can be ordered directly through your clinic. Please contact us for more details about your local genetic laboratory offering RosaMind.

We recommend collecting a cheek swab. The test is also compatible with saliva or blood samples if this is preferred. The patient does not need to be fasting.

The report offers evidence-based prescribing guidance, tailored to your patient’s genetic profile, outlining the expected efficacy and side-effect risks of mental health medications under consideration.

No. RosaMind is ethnically agnostic and can be used for patients of all ethnicities.

No. RosaMind can be used for patients of all ages and provides Adult as well as Paediatric Clinical Guidelines.

RosaMind currently tests the following genes:

CYP2B6

CYP2C9

CYP2C19

CYP2D6

CYP3A4

EPM2A

HLA-A

HLA-B

RosaMind provides clinical guidelines only for those medications with the highest level of evidence (CPIC – Level1 and 2) providing maximum clinical utility and confidence:

Amitriptyline, Doxepin, Paroxetine, Aripiprazole, Escitalopram, Quetiapine, Atomoxetine, Fluvoxamine, Risperidone, Carbamazepine, Haloperidol, Sertraline Citalopram, Imipramine, Trimipramine, Clomipramine, Lamotrigine, Venlafaxine, Desipramine, Nortriptyline, Zuclopenthixol.

RosaMind does not test for pre-existing or future health conditions. It only analyses the genes and the gene changes (variants) relevant to medication metabolism.

No. Taking medication at the time of testing does not impact results.

A secure, personalised report is delivered electronically via the genetic laboratory performing the Gene S test.

Samples can be processed within 2-3 days. Standard laboratory turnaround, including lab workflows, is approximately 10 working days.

No. The cost of testing is paid by the patient. There are several private insurance companies that are subsidising pharmacogenomics for mental health medications.

Yes. All results are confidential and securely stored.
